In 1867 a New York concern built a mill in Galveston, oriented to the export trade. An oil mill in Hempstead reported doing business worth $3,000 in 1869.

China, India, USA, Pakistan and Uzbekistan are the largest producers of cotton seeds and cotton seed oil. Turkey, Brazil and Egypt also started growing cotton and becoming exporters of cotton seed oil.
